Microsoft has discontinued its $1 demo for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
The company says the demo has been around for years, and now believes it’s time to say goodbye: “We’ve put our Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass introductory offer down and are evaluating various promotions for future new members.”
What does this mean for the “Game Pass trick”?
You probably know the Game Pass trick: stack three years of Xbox Live Gold, then activate Game Pass for one month and then convert three years of Xbox Live Gold into Xbox Game Pass. This way you can access the best three-year deal around for only €120. At the moment, there are no indications that this “adapter” is no longer available. However, I can imagine it’s only a matter of time before this trick becomes irrelevant, especially with Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family on the way. Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family is a Game Pass plan that allows up to five friends and family members to share Game Pass Ultimate benefits. The plan has already been rolled out in a number of countries and is expected to be available in the Benelux soon.
The novelty of the Xbox Game Pass subscription has worn off and it’s time to take the service to the next level. In my opinion, it makes sense to say goodbye to introductory offers and other “tricks” to get it as cheap as possible. Xbox Game Pass has proven profitable and is also Microsoft’s vision for the future.
