Greek shipping companies make a lot of money by transporting large volumes of Russian oil, which other tankers do not like to touch. Ukraine added Greek tanker companies to the list of “international sponsors of the war”. But the fact that many of these carriers are still insured by Western insurance companies indicates that they are within the price cap.

- The graph below shows that Russia – despite sanctions imposed by the European Union and the G7 – is exporting more oil than ever before (in blue). This is only possible thanks to the Greek (red) tanker fleet, which has been transporting Russian oil to a large extent since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
