Wegenerken in Stuyvenberg from 8 August

Road and sewer works will begin in the Stuyvenberg district on August 8. A number of streets are designed as residential areas, a car-free place where children are given space to play and adults can meet. The work is expected to be completed by spring 2025.

Separate sewage system

The local government Wittrin carries out these works in cooperation with Aquafin, the municipal sanitation director. Windey NV has been appointed as the contractor to carry out the works.

They are installing a separate sewage system in dr. De Bruyckerstraat, Collegiebaan, Eeminckstraat, Schakelstraat, Eigendakstraat and Sportstraat. Creating a separate sewage system means separating waste water and rain water. Wastewater goes through the sewage system to the Aquafin treatment plant. With the infiltration of the grooves, rainwater is kept on site as much as possible. In heavy rain, rainwater is drained

The streets became residential areas

Doctor. Bruyckerstraat, Collegiebaan, Eeminckstraat, Schakelstraat, Eigendakstraat and Sportstraat will be arranged as residential areas with more space for play and meeting. The works are part of the Stuyvenberg Project with actions to improve the quality of life, provide more green spaces and strengthen a sense of community. This makes the Stuyvenberg area even more fun to live in!

Business planning

To reduce inconvenience to residents as much as possible, the works will be carried out in phases:

  • The intersection of Dr De Bruyckerstraat and Molenstraat is the first to go. Works at this intersection are immediately carried out in full: sewage, piling, paving.
  • All six junctions with Molenstraat (west side) and Kapellestraat (east side) will be treated in the same way.
  • Once the first intersection is ready, the actual first stage will begin: the works on Dr De Bruyckerstraat and the three side streets (Verbindingsstraat, Eigendakstraat and Sportstraat), starting at the Kapellestraat. In this area, the foundations are laid as close as possible after the sewage system, in order to minimize inconvenience to the local residents.
  • Collegiebaan and Eeminckstraat will next be in two stages.
  • The work is expected to be completed by spring 2025.
