Wout van Aert rehabilitation: “I'm starting to feel like my old self again”

A day before he was set to shine in Paris-Roubaix, Wout van Aert gave an update on his rehabilitation. “I hope to be back on my bike soon, but for now all the focus is on my recovery,” he says of Knokke-Heist, where he makes necessity a virtue.

Wout van Aert wanted to shine in the Classics over the Easter weekend, but it turned out to be a Knokke-Heist for the unlucky rider. From his holiday resort he informs his followers of his recovery.

“9 days after surgery, I started to feel like my old self again,” Wout van Aert wrote on Instagram.

“I hope to return to my bike soon, but for now, full recovery from my wounds and broken bones is the absolute priority,” the rider said with a photo of himself on a balcony overlooking the sea.

I never received more letters, gifts or emails. As a result, I now laugh more and suffer less.

A week and a half ago, Van Aert fell hard at Flandren's doorsteps. He suffered fractures to his collarbone, sternum and ribs. With a bruised lung above.

“I am grateful for the extra time I have with my loved ones,” Van Aert continues. “I would like to thank everyone who took care of me after my fall: my wife, my children, my family, the team, the doctors, the nurses, the therapists…”
