About 30,000 people commemorated the victims of the Corona virus in Vienna on Sunday evening with a sea of lights. This was reported by the police.
During the ten-minute vigil in the center of the Austrian capital, participants carried candles or lights with them, or shone by the light of their cell phones.
The celebration, with the slogan “Yes, we care” was supported by dozens of organizations, such as labor unions, medical societies and religious groups.
President Alexander van der Bellen also expressed his support. He tweeted a picture of a candle with the hashtag #YesWeCare.
In Austria, more than 13,000 people have died from or due to COVID-19.
