Justin Trudeau’s team explains photos of a Canadian prime minister singing in the lobby of a London hotel. Trudeau letting himself go there two days before Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral on the Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” didn’t satisfy everyone.
The short video, which has since been viewed more than 1.5 million times, shows Trudeau enjoying the piano in the lobby of London’s Corinthia Hotel. Trudeau, dressed in a T-shirt, sings alongside Gregory Charles, a well-known Canadian pianist, as he plays “Bohemian Rhapsody” by British rock band Queen.
Canada’s prime minister has come under fire from some political commentators, who have accused Trudeau of lack of decency shortly before the Queen’s other funeral. A spokesman for the prime minister rushed to frame the musical interlude. After dinner on Saturday, the Prime Minister went to a small gathering where the Canadian delegation paid tribute to the life of Her Majesty.
The spokesman said he had “participated in various activities”. Charles played some songs at the meeting. It was then that some members of the delegation, including the Prime Minister, started singing.
The pianist from Trinidad told the newspaper afterwards Globe and Mail That evening reminded him of Caribbean funerals, where there is also room for lightness and festivity. ‘Everyone sang with me for two hours. It was so much fun.’
