Because of the strikes announced on Friday by the two German trade unions, Verdi and Komba, hundreds of flights have been canceled in Germany.
At Cologne Bonn Airport, 131 passenger flights (66 departures and 65 arriving) will be canceled between Monday 06:00 and Tuesday 06:00, German airport reports on Twitter. Dusseldorf Airport also went on strike at the same time. There, passengers have to account for about 200 canceled flights, Dusseldorf Airport estimates. The Hamburg Morgenpost reported that flights in Hamburg would also be killed by the strikes. It will be at least twenty passenger flights.
The strikes are driven by negotiations between public sector workers at the federal and municipal levels, as well as nationwide negotiations for aviation security workers. According to Verdi’s Andrea Becker, employees have yet to receive an “acceptable offer”.
