Philippe Starck is one of the greatest designers of our time with many furniture and designs that have become classics, such as Alessi’s fruit juicer. The Frenchman is a jack of all trades and is also interested in interior design. Some time ago he obtained the keys to this villa near Saint-Tropez.
After nearly six decades, it was in need of a comprehensive renovation. Because Stark wanted to keep the house from losing its soul, he decided that after the extensive renovation, the house should radiate a 1960s vibe more than ever. Accessories made of chestnut wood, leather and rusty brown, with elements of beige, provide a natural look that creates a bridge to the nature surrounding the home. With the slightly curved roof giving the impression of being on a boat, a link is also created with the sea that you see in the distance.
For best visibility, the house is opened completely lengthwise. Each room now has a large window and connects to the covered terrace. For a refreshing swim, guests staying here – Villa W is a holiday home – can go into the seventeen-metre-long pool covered with special colorful tiles. This is a reference to Charles and Ray Eames’ house in Los Angeles, which Stark took inspiration from.
