The Recording Academy, the organization behind the Grammy Awards, received a lot of criticism last year. Top performers such as The Weeknd and Drake have called the organization corrupt and have not accepted the nominations. That’s why the Recording Academy changed the rules. For example, the organization announced that it would not work in the future with secret committees that select all candidates, in order to make up for the lack of diversity. In addition, there is a change under the category of Album of the Year, which is one of the most important awards. Starting in 2022, all people who have contributed to a particular recording, such as producers, songwriters, and guest artists, will also be nominated for the figurine. Previously, this only applied to employees who contributed at least 33 percent of an album. Also, only records are eligible for this rate of 75 percent new material, which was previously not a norm.
Olivia Rodrigo is one of the main contenders for the Grammy Awards in January. The 18-year-old is the only female pop star to breakout worldwide this year, scoring nominations in the major categories. Rodrigo has received seven nominations and has a chance to win an award for her record “SOUR” in the Album of the Year category and “Drivers License” for Song of the Year. It was also nominated in the categories: Best Pop Solo Performance, Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, Record of the Year and Best Music Video.
The artist with the most nominations to his name is John Baptiste, who has a chance to win eleven Grammy Awards. The American jazz musician has been nominated in several minor categories. Justin Bieber does a surprisingly good job. It has eight nominations, as Doja Cat and HER. Unlike newcomer Rodrigo, the Canadian singer is already an established name at the Music Awards.
ABBA won a Grammy nomination for the first time. The Swedish pop band, which has been around for nearly fifty years, has a chance in the Record of the Year category with their single “I Still Have Faith In You”. The song for which Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid were nominated comes from their latest album “Voyage”. This was the first new ABBA record in forty years.
Jay-Z is the most nominated artist in music history. He received three nominations this year, for which the rapper has now qualified for the Music Awards a total of 83 times. Jay-Z is nominated for collaborations with Kanye West and DMX. In total, Shawn Corey Carter, as he is officially called Jay-Z, has already won the Grammy nomination 23 times.
The 51-year-old rapper shared the record artist with the most Grammy nominations previously with producer Quincy Jones. Until recently, both had 80 nominations to their name. Paul McCartney is now in second place with 81 quotes.
The Grammys will be presented on January 31 in Los Angeles.
