A cargo ship faces trouble off the coast of Brittany after a fire broke out on board and its crew was evacuated | outside

to updateThe French prefecture said that a cargo ship with a crew of twenty on board ran into trouble off the coast of Brittany on Wednesday. As far as we know, no one was injured. The passengers have now been removed from the ship and a tugboat will transport the cargo ship to the port of Brest today.

The Joanna, a 150-meter-long Panamanian-flagged ship, was about 185 kilometers from the municipality of Pinmarche, and the tug Abel Bourbon was expected to be there by 12:30 p.m. He must take the ship to the port of Brest. After assessing the damage, there will be no risk of drowning.

The damage was caused by a fire in the engine room which took out Joanna's engine. This made the ship unmanageable, while the crew was unable to repair the engine themselves, according to an announcement from the Maritime Prefecture of the Atlantic.

A helicopter evacuated a crew of fourteen who arrived at the French naval air base at Lanvieuc-Bolmec at around 11 p.m. The other six were picked up by the Spanish ship Esperanza del Mar, which was nearby, and are expected to arrive in Brest on Thursday afternoon.

The tugboat Abel Bourbon also arrived in Guana on Wednesday evening. A towing crew will monitor the cargo ship overnight and will tow it to Brest today.

The Guana ship was on its way to Türkiye with a load of iron filings.
