In the opening round against Union, Anderlecht’s midfield was trampled underfoot. It was immediately clear to the Purple & White scouts: reinforcements were needed.
Mats Rits file was soon laid on the table. The midfielder is in the final year of his contract with Club Brugge and does not immediately look like he has the prospect of an extension. Especially with the arrival of Hugo Vetlesen, the competition at the Club was also intense.
After 5 years with the Blue and Black – where the 30-year-old Rits celebrated with three titles and two Supercups – they were ready to collaborate on a move from Rits in Bruges.
Anderlecht, which offered an attractive salary package, seemed like the destination, until Union suddenly entered the fray after the departure of Seni-Lenin.
In the end, an offer of around two million euros was enough for Anderlecht to secure the signing of Mats Ritz. The 30-year-old midfielder signs for three years.
“I signed here today with a very good feeling and a great deal of sense to contribute something to the team,” Rits himself says of his transfer. “It was an easy choice for me and the right time to choose this project.”
“I immediately felt a great deal of confidence from the management of RSC Anderlecht and I strongly believe in the clear sporting vision of the club’s management.”
Jesper Fredberg confirms this: “Mats Ritz is a valuable player who knows the competition through and through, has a lot of experience and adds a dose of drive to the core.”
“He’s a dynamic midfielder, but he also has a strong personality and a good tackler.”
“Subtly charming internet specialist. Avid writer. Friendly alcohol guru. Music ninja. Devoted social media fanatic.”
