Americans are still waiting for the final election results: “What the hell is going on?” | Abroad

The votes are still being counted and the final results for the Senate and the House of Representatives are pending. Republicans are expected to win a majority in the House of Representatives. It is not yet clear who will take control of the Senate.

The division of the Senate is based on the so-called warring states of Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia. In the first two states, votes are still being counted, and in Georgia a new round is needed because none of the candidates got more than half the votes. The Democrats currently have 48 seats in the Senate and the Republicans have 49 seats.

To control the 435-seat House of Representatives, 218 seats are required. According to the New York Times, Republicans can currently count on 211 seats.

Prior to the midterm elections, Democrats still had majorities in both houses. Before the midterm elections, the Republican Party was expected to score a big victory. Although Republicans had at least a good chance of regaining a majority in the House, the expected “red wave” did not materialize.
