Biden has little competition. His latest challenger, Dean Phillips, a member of the House of Representatives, has yet to win a primary against Biden in any state and Michigan is no different. Phillips could count on less than three percent of the vote. Author Marianne Williamson was still on the ballot in Michigan, but withdrew from the race on February 7. He also got few percentage of votes.
This is particularly interesting in the Republican Party. An early forecast shows Trump getting twice as much support in Michigan as his opponent, Nikki Haley. However, Trump won with a lower-than-predicted 66 percent of the Republican vote, giving him an eighty percent lead.
Nikki Haley has never won a primary. Trump even won easily in his home state of South Carolina last Sunday. Nevertheless, Haley has indicated that she wants to continue at least until Super Tuesday on March 5, when primaries will be held in fifteen different states. On that day, when 35 percent of delegates are distributed, Trump is expected to deliver the final blow to Haley. It is already practically impossible for Haley to win the nomination through conventional means. Haley hopes Trump will stumble on one of his legal problems before the Republican convention in November or July.
Israel
So there was some tension, but the Democratic primary in Michigan in particular, where many voters have a Muslim background, was closely watched. American Muslim organizations and progressive groups called for blank ballots to protest the Biden administration's support for Israel. The move was supported by many progressive figures in the state.
According to interim results, more than 77,000 voters checked the 'undecided' box, leaving no choice for any Democratic candidate. That's about 12 percent of the vote, which is seen as a big number. Michigan usually votes Democratic in presidential elections, but in 2016 Trump won the Republican state by 11,000 votes. Even if Biden beats Trump by about 150,000 votes in 2020; But if Israel still plays a role in November, if Muslim supporters still stay home en masse, the matter could still play a role.
