Truss announced that new party leadership elections will take place within the week, the fourth in six years. She will remain prime minister until a new party leader is elected to succeed her as prime minister. According to the chairman of the 1922 commission, the election result should be known next Friday (October 28).
It is said that Jeremy Hunt, who was a candidate in the last election and is now allowed to pull chestnuts from the fire as Treasury Secretary, will not run again.
