Justin Trudeau’s tolerance, welcome, and multi-ethnic Canada are linked to racial hatred. The latest target was a Muslim family who were walking Sunday evening in London, home to nearly half a million people in the southern province of Ontario. Suddenly a pick-up truck came out and targeted straight pedestrians, knocking down the entire family: the victims were a 74-year-old woman, a 46-year-old man, a 44-year-old woman and a 15-year-old woman.
The suspected culprit was arrested at a business complex ten kilometers away. He is a 20-year-old London resident whose personal details have not yet been released. Investigators have a hope. “There is evidence that this was a premeditated, deliberate, hateful act. We believe the victims in this horrific episode were shot because they were Muslims,” Police Superintendent Paul Waite explained at a news conference.
The suspect was charged with four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. To complicate his position, investigators are considering whether the worst case scenario of racial-religious hatred, at the same time, could compete with terrorism. The attack shook the local community and the entire country. But this is only the latest example of the violence that Muslims across the country have experienced in recent years. The National Council of Canadian Muslims identified more than 300 “incidents” from 2015 to 2019, including more than 30 acts of physical violence.
