PC shipments rose nearly 15% in 2021, according to research firms IDC and Canalys. The PC market hasn’t grown by this percentage since 2012. In particular, shipments of Macs are said to have increased.
Manufacturers delivered 348.8 million PCs in 2021 and that was 14.8 percent more than in 2020, IDC calculated based on personal computing device tracker. This is the survey by which the agency estimates the amount of desktop computers, laptops, and workstations delivered each quarter. According to IDC, the number of systems shipped since 2012 could have been higher had it not been for chip shortages and other parts supply issues.
In the last quarter of 2021, growth was modest: deliveries were 1 percent higher than in the fourth quarter of 2020. According to IDC, Apple particularly benefited from increased demand last year, but Dell also saw a significant increase in deliveries. . According to the survey, Lenovo and HP are still the two manufacturers with the largest market shares.
