On a hot summer day in 1986, the couple decided to plan a day trip to Paris. “It was not at all intuitive to us,” says Catherine. “Danny worked in his parents’ flower shop and had no free time. So we only saw each other Saturday and Sunday evenings after the market. But we needed a vacation, and Danny managed to arrange his father’s car. In the early morning hours we left for the city of love.”

Their first stop is the Palace of Versailles. There Danny and Catherine decided to rent a rowboat in the gardens. But what Catherine didn’t know at the time was that Danny had a lot up his sleeve. “As we were bobbing on the puddle, a bottle suddenly floated in the water,” says Catherine. “I saw there was a message inside, like a real mailbox.
