Information Minister tortured by Gloria Monserez and Bart de Wever: James Cook tells the story behind the impressive Castars video | Tenants

televisionDuring Kastaars! Last weekend, Benjamin Daly (41) was seriously threatened in a video – albeit a staged one – by Gloria Monserez (22), who did not want to hand over her award for the film “Doorbraak 2022”. The Minister of Information came out exhausted, his eye bruised and his suit torn. Production director James Cook explains how he managed to convince the minister of this bold move. “We didn't have to rewrite the script.”

According to James Cook, who put together the “Kastaars!” Filming the entire video with his production company Dedsit, Daly immediately liked the idea. “As Minister of Information, Mr Dali wants to put young talents in the spotlight. He was also convinced by the fact that Gloria Monserez, who won the Durbrak Prize last year, was in the lead. After reading the script, he gave us carte blanche. We didn't have to rewrite the script. We wanted to “We forbid viewers from lying on their sofas while watching a video with a politician, so he had to get out of his comfort zone. We promised him that we would not betray his trust.”

With the help of director Kevin Hoppin – who also directed the film “James the Musical” – the Information Minister took his first steps as an actor, although he had to do something for it. “We shot in an empty building in Asiat Park in Vilvoorde, it was very cold there. We tried to keep our minister warm by using heat packs on his clothes. We gave him blankets between takes.

Attachments to the eye

Dali spent nearly an hour applying makeup, and the shoot itself lasted half a day. “It was nothing: a bag over his head, attachments over his eyes, on stage with a torn costume… We pulled down his suit and sandpapered it to expose it completely. The chains he was tied to could not be removed immediately either. The explosions were carried out during electrocution with Fireworks, but we made some of them bigger in the edit. It was nice to see how Mr. Daly threw himself completely in. He always remained enthusiastic and would regularly ask if it was good enough.

Can Daly expect more acting work in the future? “We're not currently looking for actors with his profile, for example for our 'Assizes' series, but it's been a very interesting collaboration,” laughs James. Dali himself is also very satisfied with the result. “With a small heart, but I'm glad I did it,” he said after the Castars!
