Special edition shirt

“May 16, 1999 is etched in every Genki’s memory. This was the first of four national titles we won in the history of our young club. The first time is always something special. We didn’t want to let that anniversary pass by,” says General Manager Eric Gerets proudly. : “In collaboration with our supporters and shirt partner Nike, we have designed an exclusive special edition shirt with which we want to honor the heroes of the past.”

On Thursday, KRC Genk released a video clip in which club legend and interim coach Domenico Olivieri shines in an elegant black shirt with gold trim. The shirt is full of references to the first title in the club’s history, 25 years ago. The neck of the shirt features the date engraved in each genki’s memory, and is flanked on either side by the famous ‘G’ made up of 12 small stars, the club’s logo at the time. Shirt numbers consist of images of players and staff from the 1998-99 season in question. From the famous duo Strawbar-Ollari to Bruckhauser. They are all reflected in the jersey numbers on this special edition jersey.

Competition in the spirit of legends

The shirt has been commemorating champions for 25 years, but it doesn’t stop there. Next Monday’s match against Antwerp will be entirely dedicated to the first title in the club’s history. Living legend Pierre Denyer, assistant coach in the 1998-1999 season, spared no effort to bring the champions of that time back to Genk. Players and staff of the respective champion team will be felicitated in a packed Sijeka Arena on Monday before the start of the match. After the match, they are expected to be in the fan zone for a round of questions and then, as is customary in Genk, they will mingle among the fans to discuss the cards.
