Brazil and Argentina came home on Thursday with victory in the South American World Cup qualifying zone in Qatar.
Flamengo striker Everton Ribeiro gave Brazil a 1-0 win over Chile with a goal midway through the second half. The divine Canaries could have counted on Neymar in Santiago but he missed out on some Premier League men (due to vetoes from English clubs), such as goalkeeper Alisson, defender and captain Thiago Silva.
Argentina won with Lionel Messi 1-3 in Venezuela. Lautaro Martinez (45. +2) opened the score in Caracas. After the break, Joaquin Correa (71) and Angel Correa (74) deepened the lead. Iverson Sutildo (90.+4) scored the final score in injury time.
The new PSG player was lucky to be able to walk off the field with one piece. Venezuelan Luiz Martinez hit a half-death kick in the leg of Messi, as he was photographed in red and allowed to take a shower.
With 21 out of 21, Brazil continues to lead Argentina (15 out of 21). Ecuador (12 points) and Uruguay (9 points) also have a World Cup ticket at the moment. Ecuador beat Paraguay 2-0, and Uruguay drew 1-1 in Peru. In the fifth match in the evening, Bolivia and Colombia tied (1-1).
The qualifiers continue on Sunday with, among others, the classic Brazilian-Argentine match in Sao Paulo.
