More jobs were added in the U.S. in June than expected. This is according to data from the US Department of Labor.
372,000 jobs were added in June, while analysts polled by Reuters had expected just 268,000. There has been progress in job creation in the service sector, hotel and catering industry and healthcare.
Figures for May have been slightly revised downwards. That means 3,90,000 additional jobs were announced in May.
The private sector made up for all the jobs lost during the Covid-19 pandemic in June, with 140,000 more jobs now than in February 2020. However, the government still has a gap of 664,000 jobs. As a result, US employment in June was 524,000 jobs below February 2020.
The U.S. unemployment rate is steady at 3.6 percent. According to official figures, the world’s largest economy now has 5.9 million people out of work.
