Sportswear brand Nike has given its US headquarters employees a week off to “de-stress” and recover from the stress of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The US group and athletic apparel and shoe maker said employees at its Oregon headquarters will remain “disabled” through Friday. Employees are encouraged to ignore all work responsibilities to promote their mental health.
“Take the time to relax, de-stress, and spend time with your loved ones. Don’t work,” said Matt Marazzo, Senior Director of Nike, in an open letter to employees on LinkedIn.
The move puts Nike among a growing number of companies offering additional leave, or waiving work responsibilities, to combat burnout caused by working from home and many video calls.
“It’s not just a week off for the team… It’s a recognition that we can prioritize mental health and still get the work done,” added Marazzo.
