On Wednesday afternoon local time in Australia and Asia, you can see the moon passing in front of the sun. However, it is not an ordinary solar eclipse but a hybrid. This means that the Moon will cover the full Sun, after which a “ring of fire” will form. The next hybrid solar eclipse won’t happen for another ten years.

You can watch the solar eclipse online. Four types of solar eclipses
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon comes between the earth and the sun. Thanks to centuries of observation, we can predict solar eclipses. “We can now predict these events with incredible accuracy,” said Mitha, the author of Science. It’s good to know when they come, so we’re not surprised. “Imagine how many car accidents a sudden eclipse would cause if people weren’t expecting it,” he adds.
There are four types of solar eclipses: total, partial, annular, and hybrid. In a total solar eclipse, the moon completely blocks the sun. In a partial eclipse, the sun and moon are not completely aligned, so only part of the sun is covered. In an annular eclipse, part of the sun remains visible. This only happens when the Moon is farthest from Earth and appears smaller, forming a ring of light. During hybrid eclipses, like this week, there may be a total and annular eclipse due to the curvature of the Earth.
