“The Army tracks a new balloon over US soil” | outside

The US military reportedly spotted another balloon over US soil. The US news channel NBC reported on the basis of three government officials that it is not clear exactly what kind of object it is and who it belongs to.

The object had flown over parts of Hawaii, according to NBC, but it was not related to “sensitive” areas. The Army has been tracking the target since late last week and has determined there is no risk to air traffic or national security. The object is now slowly moving towards Mexico.

Earlier this year, several objects were shot from the sky after a Chinese zeppelin was shot down by the US military. The US says the item was intended for espionage, and Beijing insists it was a windswept weather balloon. It is unclear what the other three things are. According to US President Joe Biden, these were not spy balloons and may have come from commercial companies or research institutes.
