The Czech Republic will buy 24 F-35 fighter jets. Prime Minister Peter Fiala announced that the government approved the plan to purchase modern American combat aircraft. He wants to strengthen the air force with F-35s, so that it is better able to defend the NATO member state.

Fiala says in a message on the X website that “hypersonic” aircraft are the best option to enhance air power in the coming decades. The F-35 is said to have a long lifespan for the price. According to the Prime Minister, the Czech Armed Forces are making a technological leap by purchasing new combat aircraft equipped with “the latest technology in the world.” The Netherlands also purchased F-35 aircraft.

According to Fiala, the purchase of combat aircraft is also a signal to the rest of NATO countries. He added: “This shows our allies that we take the defense of our country seriously and that they can count on us.” The Czech Republic has provided a lot of military support to Ukraine over the past year and a half.

The first plane is scheduled to arrive in the Czech Republic in 2029, and the rest by 2035 at the latest, and the pilots will be trained in the United States.
