The percentage of positive lab tests increased from four to six percent in one week. The seven-day infection rate, the number of new cases per week, has nearly tripled since the beginning of August to 48.8 per 100,000 population. Some German citizens were injured while on vacation.
The number of infections is increasing sharply, especially among young people. In the 15-34 age group, the seven-day incidence is about 86. And in people over 60, who are often fully vaccinated, this is still 10 infections per 100,000.
According to the RKI, there is still a significant health risk to Germans who have not been vaccinated or have not been fully vaccinated. For those completely contraindicated, the risk is categorized as “medium”.
The Institute of Health notes that a similar increase in the number of infections occurred in late September and early October last year. But in 2020, there was no protection by vaccination, it was asserted.
In total, about 64 percent of the German population has received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine. More than 58 percent have already been vaccinated.
