The KNVB is seriously considering the fact that the USA and Mexico will withdraw as candidates to host the Women’s World Cup in 2027, General Gijs de Jong told Zeist. About two weeks ago, South Africa informed FIFA that it was canceling the World Cup. If the U.S. and Mexico withdraw, the KNVB (along with the German and Belgian soccer associations) will be the only competitor with Brazil.
“Brazil, like the other candidate organizer, is moving full speed ahead,” said De Jong, who sees little movement in the U.S. and Mexico and is counting on a short-term or slightly long-term cancellation. “That’s purely my assessment. The KNVB and the German and Belgian football associations will submit physical documents to FIFA in Zurich on Thursday. The World Cup will be presented on May 17 at the FIFA World Cup in Bangkok.
