The pop-up studio store on Hengelose Nieuwstraat was a success: “You expect this more in big cities”

Artist Lara Voss has been helping fellow artists with their pop-up studio shop for several months. The concept has been such a success that creative entrepreneurs are queuing up to use a temporary pop-up shop in Neustraat.

Subletting

She has also been living and working in a building in Neustraat for three years. Three vacant commercial buildings have been completely refurbished by Welbions housing association to turn them into homes with space for a studio or shop. At the beginning of this year, the space next to Lara became vacant. Then the artist made the decision and decided to rent it. After obtaining approval from Welbions, it sub-leases the store area to creative entrepreneurs for short periods of three or four months. She uses the living area herself.

interest

“The two stores reinforce each other and I thought this was a great opportunity for young entrepreneurs or artists to have a pop-up store set up and ready downtown.” Voss was not surprised by the success of the concept. “There are almost no short-term rental properties in the city. Usually the contract is for one or two years.” Lara Voss is happy with the interest in the retail space and not having to advertise it herself. “Two people have already registered wanting to rent the space following Patricia Van de Kamp, who has had her pop-up shop since Wednesday.”

“The two stores reinforce each other and I thought this was a great opportunity for young entrepreneurs or artists to have a pop-up store up and running in the city centre.”

Opportunities

Van de Kamp is displaying and selling photos, paintings and decorative vases in her own pop-up shop until the end of December. “It’s the first time I have my own space,” she says happily. “I had studios, but there’s more to the business. Here it’s more about the show.” The visual artist believes there are opportunities in Hengelo and more places where temporary studio shops can be set up. It has already had many positive reactions. And the most striking? “Someone was surprised that there was such a store in Hengelo and expected something like this more in bigger cities.”
