Immediately after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, Iran was reported to have played a role. So I mentioned The Wall Street Journal A day later, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard had been helping prepare for the attack for weeks. Iran supports Hamas, but has so far consistently denied its involvement in the current war. US President Joe Biden said last night that this attack “has nothing to do with Israel.”
The Pentagon said the United States said the strikes were in response to recent attacks on US forces in Iraq and Syria. US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said in a statement: “These precision strikes in self-defense are in response to a series of ongoing and largely unsuccessful attacks on US personnel in Iraq and Syria carried out by Iranian-backed militias starting on October 17.”
US President Joe Biden ordered the attacks to be carried out. On Wednesday, Biden said in a press conference that he warned Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei against attacks on American forces. He added: “My warning to the Ayatollah was that if they continue to turn against those forces, we will respond and he must be prepared.”
