Trump tax returns released

Trump tax returns released

Former US President Donald Trump’s tax returns may be made public, at least in part. The decision was made by a parliamentary committee controlled by Democrats on Tuesday evening (local time).

Trump, who recently announced that he will run again in the upcoming presidential election, has been fighting hard to keep the documents secret for the past few years, and is currently biting the dust.

The debate over publishing the documents goes back several years. In the US, it is customary for the president to make his tax returns public. But Trump always opposed it during his campaign and tenure. That led to years of battle between Republicans and Democrats, who accuse him of cheating and therefore want to see his tax returns.

The House of Representatives, which is primarily concerned with tax matters, voted 16 to 24 to release the Republican billionaire’s six-year tax returns (from 2015 to 2020). It has not been announced exactly when they will be released, but US media speculate that it will happen in the next few days.
