“We save energy and improve our production by removing moisture”

SafriCanna is an EU GMP certified cannabis grower in South Africa. The company focuses on the premium cannabis market and exports its products worldwide. “We take pride in our product and make sure our environment is extremely clean and pest free,” says master farmer Chad S. In a video interview recently.

To operate under EU-GMP certification, SafriCanna must adhere to strict quality rules. That includes maintaining a mold-free environment.

Moisture leads to mold and excess energy costs
“In the beginning of our business, we had problems with humidity. Given the size of the flowering areas and the amount of plants we have, there is an excess of moisture that evaporates from the plants. If you can’t lower the humidity in the evening, fungal outbreaks appear, such as powdery mildew,” says Chad. “As a result, we also wasted a lot of money on energy by heating the room while ventilating.”

To combat these issues, SafriCanna recently invested in two more DryGair DG-12 units, after a successful first 4 1/2 years. The company is already planning to incorporate additional DG dehumidifiers into its upcoming facility expansion.

DryGair dehumidification systems are popular in commercial cannabis growing plants around the world and are used to control moisture and prevent mold, which is critical to GMP certification.

Solve mold problems with DryGair
“When we use DryGair, we make sure the room is as closed off as possible. We close the different layers of screen and turn off the fans. Then we set DryGair set points and let the climate in the room be controlled.” Chad explains. “We also sometimes use them during the day, when it’s cloudy and we can’t ventilate effectively. DG units are able to get the humidity down to the level we need.”

“Since using DryGair, we’ve seen amazing improvements in product quality and productivity. We’ve been able to reduce the number of molds. At the end of the day, we’re getting a lot more room yield than before.”

“DryGair saves us about 50% on heating costs” Master farmer Chad S. mentions the high energy costs of heating and ventilation and how DryGair helps reduce those costs.

“Before using DryGair, we spent a lot of money and energy to reduce humidity by heating and ventilation. And since using DryGair, we’ve been able to cut energy costs by about 50%. We need to use the heating system more often and we ventilate the room much less.”

Experience with other dehumidifiers
“I’ve worked with many dehumidifiers in the past, from top brands to high end of the line. We’re currently having issues in our other room with other dehumidifiers that generate a lot of heat and use a lot of energy,” said Chad.

“DryGair makes it really easy. You just enter your set points and DryGair does the rest.”

DryGair will showcase its moisture control and energy conservation solution at the upcoming GreenTech in Amsterdam and Cultivate in Ohio.
