Google Chat may come with a smart summary to summarize conversations

Google is considering a new AI feature for Google Chat. Smart Summary allows users to summarize long conversations.

In the Google Chat app code they found: PiunikaWeb Some interesting references, including the term Smart Summary. It could be a feature that uses Google's Gemini AI to help you quickly when you're not following long (group) conversations and don't want to scroll through that wall of text yourself.

Google Chat already offers some form of automatic summaries, but users can use Smart Summary to work in more detail, especially for specific conversations. Existing summaries can sometimes miss something, and with Smart Summary, the user theoretically gets more control over what they want to highlight.

According to PiunikaWeb, the AI integration will be particularly seamless and will only require little effort to activate the briefs. You have to press and hold a specific conversation with your finger, after which you can point to the correct option in the menu that appears.

Smart summary in Google chat

If the feature comes (Google itself has yet to confirm anything after the leak), the question remains how accurate the summaries will be. As is often the case with these types of apps, there's a disclaimer: AI can sometimes make mistakes, and Google may also want to protect itself a bit from possible unwanted results.

Users will later be given the opportunity to provide feedback on the summaries produced by Smart Summary. It could certainly be useful for Google in the early days to increase Gemini's accuracy in Google Chat.

It previously became clear that Gmail for web and Android would be coming with more Gemini features. Therefore, it is only a matter of time before the intelligent features offered by generative AI find their way into other applications in the Workspace suite.
