A Taylor man died Sunday evening after a train struck his truck near Frame Switch.

The man, 37-year-old Charles Ray Nygrin Jr., died at the scene.

Nygrin had been stopped in his vehicle on a private road headed northbound when an Amtrak train headed from El Paso to Chicago hit his 2007 Dodge pickup truck, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety official.

The DPS official said Nygrin was reportedly inattentive at the intersection of a private road and Union Pacific lines that run parallel to U.S. 79. The official said Nygrin was using his cell phone when the train struck his truck.

The collision pushed Nygrin’s truck into a signal house on the south side of the railroad tracks.
