◀ MIA's heartbreaking failure in not honoring Will Taura: “It is of course inexcusable not to honor the greatest Flemish singer of all time” | Ltd

HLN Media WatchersThe 16th edition of the Music Industry Awards, or MIA for short, took place on Wednesday evening. The awards show is discussed in detail in the new episode of our podcast “HLN Mediawatchers.” One thing is for sure: media observer Mark Koengracht is not happy about the embarrassing incident that occurred at MIA: “It hurts that Will Torra has been sacrificed for the sake of Hugo's tears.”

“Hugo Segal beats Will Taura.” This was the painful realization at the Museum of Islamic Art's music event when the 'Vlaams Populair' award went to the surviving half of the famous duo Nicole and Hugo. Tears and emotions everywhere at Sportpaleis. There is no one who would not give the sympathetic Hugo a piece of his mind after all his misery.

But what a mistake the organizers made in not giving additional honors to Will Toura. If one singer has succeeded in blending “Flemish and folk” as the best of all in fifty years – it is not without reason the greatest Flemish singer and composer of the last half century. “Of course, it would be inexcusable not to honor Will at the annual celebration of Flemish music,” says HLN media controller Mark Coengracht. “Yes, Will had already received the MIAS Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016, but here and now was the perfect opportunity to put Will in the spotlight one last time. Because of the engaging, emotional and gracious way in which Will said goodbye to his fans. Because of the two sports mansions that were sold “Completely, as all that has name and fame in Flemish music has come to honor the number one. It is painful that Will should be sacrificed for the tears of Hugo. No matter how sincere they may be.”
