mytelcoA gigabyte of mobile data costs a lot in Belgium. This is evident from the latest figures from the HelloSafe price comparison. We pay an average of € 2.99 per gigabyte, while this averages, for example, only € 1.89 in the Netherlands or € 0.23 in France. What are the best offers in the Belgian market and how much do you pay per GB? And how quickly does the average price drop when you get a larger subscription? Mijntelco.be I searched for it.

Only six European countries pay more for one gigabyte than Belgium, according to a study by HelloSafe. The cheapest mobile data can be found in Israel (4 cents per GB), and the most expensive in Yemen, where you pay an average of €16.51 per GB. Switzerland ranks seventh in the world with a value of €7.32 per GB.

What about us specifically?

We offer an overview of operators that offer subscriptions with a mobile phone only. In brackets is the number of call minutes or text messages included.

The general trend is that the price per gigabyte goes down the more gigabytes you have in your subscription. For example, for 1 GB you pay between 5 and 10 euros, while 1 GB in a 300 GB package costs only 14 cents.

From 1 to 5 GB

For 1GB you pay €5 (200 minutes of calling or texting) or €10 (unlimited calling minutes or texting) at Youfone. To subscribe to Hello! That is €7 (60), with Scarlet you pay €8 (300) and with Mobile Vikings (prepaid) it is €10 (25). These are large amounts while 1GB gets used up quickly.

A 2GB subscription costs €4 (400) or €6 (unlimited) per GB at edpnet. With Mobile Vikings you pay €5 per GB for 150 calling minutes and €7.5 per GB with a prepaid card for 100 minutes. Only at Mobile Vikings you can buy a prepaid card with a capacity of 3GB (133 minutes call/text), costing €20 or €6.67 per GB.

For 4GB you pay €3 per GB (150) at Orange and Mobile Vikings. A 4GB Mobile Vikings prepaid card costs €3.75 per GB (50) or €6.25 (200) – respectively €15 or €25 in total.

Finally, if we look at the 5GB subscriptions, we will find prices of 1.8€ (200) or 2.4€ (unlimited) per GB at Youfone. That puts us €2.99 below the average of the HelloSafe survey. With Telenet you pay 3.2 € per GB (unlimited) and with Proximus a little more: 3.40 € (150).

From 6 to 16 GB

A 6GB subscription and 600 call/text minutes costs €13, at Scarlet – €2.17 per GB. At BASE you pay 2.5 per GB (unlimited) and Mobile Vikings (prepaid) charges €3.33 per GB (66).

At Mobile Vikings you will find an 8GB subscription for €15 or €1.88 per GB (0). At Telenet you get that for €2.62 per GB (unlimited). Mobile Vikings also has a prepaid card of €3.13 per GB (100).

For 10 GB you pay € 10 (200) or € 13 (unlimited) in Youfone. This brings us to a price of 1 euro per GB for the first time. With edpnet you pay 1.1 € per GB (400), with Mobile Vikings or again edpnet 1.5 € (unlimited), with Proximus thanks to a discount of 1.85 € and with Scarlet 1.8 € (unlimited). Scarlet also offers an 11 GB option at €1.91 per GB (600).

If we look at a 15 GB subscription, it costs 80 cents (200) or 1 euro (unlimited) per gigabyte with Youfone, 1.26 euro (400) or 1.53 euro (unlimited) with edpnet, and 1.33 euro in BASE (unlimited). Limited) and € 1.73 in the Scarlet Store. If you want 16GB, you pay €1.93 per gigabyte (300) at Scarlet.

Could it be more? These are the cheapest plans with up to 10GB of mobile data.

From 20 to 40 GB

There are no subscriptions of 17, 18 or 19 GB. However, you can choose 20 GB. With Mobile Vikings or Youfone, you’ll pay €1 per GB (unlimited calls or texts). With Orange at €1.15 and Scarlet at €1.65 per GB (both also unlimited). With Youfone you can also choose to pay 85 cents per GB, which will give you 200 calling or text minutes. Scarlet offers a 25GB subscription (unlimited calls and texts) at €1.64 per GB – €41 in total.

hey! Telecom You pay €20 per month for 40GB (unlimited) for the first two years. Price per gigabyte: 50 cents. The same offer at Youfone costs 63 cents per GB. For 55 cents per GB, you still have 200 calling minutes or text messages left. BASE mobile subscription with unlimited calling minutes and text messages costs €29 per month. This brings us to 73 cents per gigabyte.

50 to 300 GB: Unlimited mobile browsing

From 50 GB we can talk about unlimited mobile surfing. Service providers that offer this no longer limit the number of calling minutes or text messages in a subscription. If we look at the price of a gigabyte here, we can see that this amount is decreasing sharply.

With Mobilus Maxi from Proximus, you get 50 GB for an average of 24.99 per month during the first year, thanks to the discount. Then the price of 1GB is rounded down to 50 cents. With Orange’s Go Intense, the exact same package costs 50 cents per GB.

Even with unlimited Mobile Vikings usage, you don’t have to worry about running out of gigabytes. For their plan with 70 GB, you pay 41 cents per GB. For 100 GB, you pay exactly 39 cents at BASE. A Telenet mobile subscription, which allows you to browse mobile for up to 300GB per month, costs 47 euros per month and 16 cents per GB.

With a Proximus Mobilus Unlimited subscription, you get 300 GB per month. For the first full year, the average price is €42.49 per month, or €0.14 per GB.
