On January 17, 2023, consultations between trade unions and employers stopped. Employers did not want to adequately accommodate our demands. Think about important things like: less work pressure, breaks, more “air in the schedules” (space in the schedules in terms of time) and wages. In addition, employers wanted more flexibility/flexibility and shortened the scheduling process from 26 weeks to 13 weeks.
On January 19, trade union members decided to strike for a better public transport collective agreement, with their colleagues subject to the intermodal collective labor agreement.
Employers have been given until January 30 to come up with better proposals. Because they refused to do so, a 5-day strike took place from 6 to 10 February.
Even after that, employers refused to come up with better proposals.
From February 28, we increased the pressure by announcing an indefinite strike.
We read the only response from employers in the media: “Bus drivers shouldn’t complain, they earn 4,000 euros a month.” They also tried to undermine the strike by shouting that the willingness to move would not be high. you know better.
By being willing to work, you’ve shown that you mean business. It was very loud with every hit. The bosses also saw this, the front was unbreakable.
In the run-up to the provincial elections on March 15, politics is also starting to stir. Strikes have a significant social impact.
During a Cabinet meeting on Friday 10 March, an offer was made to appoint Scouts out of the impasse. Partly because employers don’t want to give an inch.
The arrival of the scouts was the success of our strikes. Employers were not keen on government “interference”.
The offer from the Cabinet was to deploy scouts so that a good basis would be laid for further collective labor agreement negotiations between employers and trade unions.
On the 14th of March, during our demonstration in Utrecht, it was decided to suspend the proceedings after the 15th of March to give the Scouts space for their work.
