George Mikautadze is likely to leave Ajax again after more than four months. The Georgian striker was given space by the Amsterdam club to negotiate with another club.
At the end of last August, Ajax paid more than 16 million euros to the French club Metz in exchange for including Mikautadze, who participated in six league matches. He was a starter in two of those games.
In addition to Mikautadze, Branko van den Bomen, Severt Mansvirk and Silvano Vos will not travel to Cádiz, all for medical reasons. Ajax will remain in Spain until Sunday in preparation for the second half of the season. Coach John Van't Schip selected 29 players. Ajax will play a training match against Hannover 96 on Sunday.
Back to FC Metz?
For Mikautadze, the options are limited. He may only play for Ajax or Metz in Europe this season. The French club is still looking for financial resources to make the Georgian's return possible. Ajax wants to cash in on reinforcements this month. An experienced defensive midfielder is coach Van't Schip's first priority.
Geronimo Rulli is also likely to leave. After his injury, the Argentine goalkeeper is no longer the first choice for the under-the-bar position at Ajax. Talents Jaedon Pannell, Gabriel Meshouy, Tom De Graaf, Julian Brands, Walid Agugil and Amorrico of Axel Dungen also go to Cádiz with Ajax.
