Germany stunned USA in the second semi-final of the Basketball World Cup. Germany Men won 113-111 (Halftime: 59-60). It was Germany’s first ever final. Team USA, the defending Olympic champion, has won the World Cup five times before.
Andreas Obst (24 points) and Franz Wagner (22 points) were the best shooters for the Germans. Anthony Edwards’ 23 points and eight rebounds weren’t enough for the US.
With the final place, Germany bettered the bronze medal they won in 2002, the only World Cup medal for our eastern neighbours. USA will miss its second straight World Cup finals. In 2019, in China, the quarter-finals were the ultimate goal.
Earlier, Serbia grabbed the first final ticket. Serbians beat Canada 95-86 (Final time: 52-39). NBA Atlanta Hawks captain Bogdan Bogdanovic was crowned the best shooter in the winning camp with 23 points. The World Cup final will be played on Sunday at 2.40 pm Belgium time.
All the finals of the World Cup will be held in Pasay, south of the Philippine capital, Manila. During the group stage, games were also played in Jakarta, Indonesia and Okinawa, Japan.
