Club Brugge wants to replay the match against Mechelen and files a complaint: “Technical Professional Error” | Jupiler Professional League

Thiago’s disallowed goal against KV Mechelen – Club Brugge resonates.

The referees’ management admitted the error on Sunday evening: “Due to human error from the video assistant referee, the goal was wrongly disallowed.”

But this is not the end of the story for Club Brugge. On Monday afternoon, the Blue & Black announced they were taking further steps and filing a complaint with the referees’ administration.

“Not only for the sake of Club Brugge, but also for the professionalism of Belgian football, it seems important to Klopp that this mistake does not remain without consequences,” the statement read.

“The club can accept human error on the field,” says Blau Zwart. “However, in this case there is no human error but rather a professional, technical error.”

“VAR was created to remove human errors from the match in the crucial stages of the match, through technical aids.”

He added: “When the video assistant referee makes an inexplicable error in deciding the match, this must be considered a professional and technical error, and if necessary, the match must be replayed.”

“In this case, the club also contacted the KBVB Competitions Director who informed us that no report had been prepared for the referee because there had been no incident, which is fundamentally untrue.”

“Club Brugge continues to demand that communications in the VAR room as well as between VAR and the referees be abolished.”
