A manhunt is underway in Italy on Wednesday after a 21-year-old Dutch boy stabbed his father and a family friend to death. According to the Italian news agency ANSA, he subsequently fled.
A helicopter hovered for a long time over the small village of Montaldo Mondovi (fewer than 600 inhabitants) while Italian military police combed the surrounding area. Emergency services arrived in droves to the town after a stabbing was reported.
A fight broke out at a family friend’s house. Dutch and his father, a general practitioner from Harderwijk (Gelderland), stayed there during their vacation. At a certain point, the man was going to grab a knife from the kitchen. At first he beat his father, after which the friend jumped up. He also sustained stab wounds. The 59-year-old Dutch friend was taken to hospital, but died of his injuries.

The doctor’s family confirms the drama. “We just can’t figure it out yet,” the sister told the Dutch newspaper LD on Wednesday night. She lives with her parents and other relatives in Harderwijk. She didn’t want to say anything about chasing her cousin now.
The Italian media write that the offender has psychological problems. He escaped into nature after his act. Because it is considered dangerous, a massive manhunt is launched. As it got dark, the chances of finding him diminished. The small village is located in a rather remote area surrounded by forests and abandoned buildings.
