European foreign ministers meet today in Kiev: “First ever meeting of all 27 member states outside the EU” | Ukraine-Russia war

European foreign ministers are meeting today in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. This was stated by Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on social media. According to him, this is “the first meeting of all 27 member states outside the European Union.” However, this is not entirely true, because Hungary sends its cat. The main goal of the informal summit is to show European solidarity with Ukraine.

According to Borrell, the ministers “will present ideas” about the war and continued European support. They will also consider the Ukrainian peace plan and prepare to hold a new “peace summit.”

Our Foreign Minister Hajja Lahbib is also present in the European Council of Ministers, as is her Ukrainian colleague Dmytro Kulyba. “More than a year and a half after the start of the war… we are more united than ever in our solidarity with the Ukrainian people,” she said. According to her, the informal council provides the opportunity to assess the situation on the ground and the support provided by the European Union.

Russia

According to Dutch Foreign Minister Hanke Bruins Sloat, the foreign ministers are discussing “how we can increase pressure on Russia,” as well as “all possible ways to continue supporting Ukraine.”

Minister Quileba believes that the foreign ministers’ acceptance of his invitation is a “message in itself.” He says it is another step towards Ukraine’s much-desired accession to the European Union.

The visit comes after a weekend full of bad news for the government in Kiev. The US Congress has not yet agreed to provide more financial aid to Ukraine.
