These are six documents from the period when Biden was vice president under Barack Obama, and from his time in the Senate, according to reports by the US president’s attorney. The documents were found on Friday by FBI agents who searched his home.
Biden and his wife, Jill, were not present during the search, which lasted more than twelve hours, according to a statement issued by his attorney, Bob Bauer, on Saturday night (local time). According to the lawyer, these are “confidential documents and supporting materials.”
More than a week ago, classified documents were also found in Biden’s garage and home in Wilmington, Delaware. A few days ago, it was revealed that secret documents were in Biden’s private office at a Washington think tank last November.
Document discovery is a sensitive topic in the United States. Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump is in legal trouble because he took home more than 300 classified documents after he resigned. Biden himself has been critical of this as well.
Under US law, the records of a president or vice president must be turned over to the US National Archives after the term of office has expired. According to the law, it is a crime to store these documents in other places.

The Department of Justice is investigating classified documents. Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Special Counsel Robert Hoare to lead the investigation. Hoare previously served as the Attorney General of Maryland. He was appointed by former President Donald Trump. By allowing Hoare to investigate, Democrats want to avoid a conflict of interest. Hoare said he would act “quickly and accurately, without fear or favour” on the matter. Biden pledged to fully cooperate with the investigation.
That’s a big difference from his predecessor Trump, who is tooth and nail resisting an investigation into classified documents the Republican’s FBI found during a raid. According to the justice, Trump’s legal team is doing everything it can to thwart this investigation. So Justice wants Trump to become an advisor punished for contempt of court.
