Lange Jojo No Longer Sings, But “Olé, Olé, Olé” Keeps On: His RSCA Song Becomes A Global Hit | Special

Lange Jojo – Grand Jojo in French – was popularized in the 1970s for “Chef, un p’tit noche, on a soif.” In 1985 he wrote “Anderlecht Champion” (Allez, Allez, Allez, We Are The Champions) as a result of the third title in a row.

A year later, together with producer Roland Verlooven, he adapted a little club song, when the Red Devils were allowed to go to Mexico in 1986: “E Viva Mexico” was born. Belgium finished fourth in the World Cup, and the rest is history. The song of the fans invaded all the football stadiums in the world. “Olé, Olé, Olé, We Are The Champions,” you hear it everywhere these days.

Lange Jojo was a loyal fan of Anderlecht, he always went to watch, often taking care of the warm-up before an important match. So, the football club Anderlecht responds with defeat.

Former manager Michel Verschoren (90): “This song is still played at the beginning of every match. It’s still very popular. I got to know JoJo better in my 25 year career in Anderlecht. He was really a man of the people and for the people and his songs were Warm and touching.”

It was said by the singer himself regularly in reports (see below): “Lang Juju won’t stay, but ‘Oli, Olly’ will definitely!”
