Belgium Cup

Leuven with a half-leg in the semi-finals

The first leg of the first quarter-final ended tonight. This was a huge success, especially for the Leuven Bears. At Liège, they arrogantly showed themselves as the better team and the points count steadily dropped. After winning each quarter, Leuven finished with a convincing score of 90-70.

In the other two games it was more exciting. For example, after a difficult first quarter (18-9), Spiro Charleroi’s team fought back in the match against Brussels Circus, eventually managing to score a 68-68 draw. It was also an exciting match between Limburg and Ostend, but the visitors will return to the Belgian coast after tonight with a 64-66 win.

Tomorrow, Mechelen will face Antwerp Giants at home. The return matches are scheduled to be held on December 10 and 13.

Kortrijk falls after a crazy battle in Liège

Brussels, Liège and Leuven also secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Belgian Cup.

Brussels had lost its first match in Aalst on Friday (75-67), but put that in front of its fans on Sunday afternoon with a convincing victory: 85-66. Brussels will likely face Charleroi in the quarter-finals, unless third-tier club Nenani can do the job on October 28.

After the first match, Leuven also won the second match over Bergen: 67-57. Coach Eddie Castells’ team will meet Liège in the next round, which qualified for the quarter-finals after an exciting match against Kortrijk.

Kortrijk and Liege kept each other completely balanced in the first match on Friday (73-73). In the return match in Liège, the visitors seemed to be heading towards the quarter-finals.

With less than half a minute to play, Kortrijk had 4 bonus points, but Liege overtook them in a crazy final and won by one point: 81-80.

No problem for giants Antwerp and Limburg United

The last two cup winners in the 1/8 finals were not surprised. Limburg United, winners of the 2022 award, won on the field against Donza of the second division from De Pente: 61-76.

The Antwerp giants, the cup holders, made no mistake either. The Giants were too big for third-tier Ciney with a 67-100 record.

In the quarter-finals, Antwerp will face compatriots Kangaroos from Mechelen. Limburg United faces Ostend.

Ostend and Mechelen force majeure to the quarter-finals

Ostend and Mechelen advance to the quarter-finals of the Belgian Basketball Cup tonight.

National champions Ostend did just that with a 64-101 win in Complin. Mechelen won 80-101 on Parque Neufchâteau.

In three other 1/8 Finals, teams from the BNXT League faced each other on Friday and those matches take place in a rematch. Leuven won 68-75 in Mons, Aalst defeated Brussels 75-67, and Kortrijk and Liege tied 73-73. The return matches will be held on Sunday afternoon.
