Türkiye is preparing to host the Russian-Ukrainian summit
Türkiye is ready to host the Russian-Ukrainian summit. This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who met with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Istanbul.
Erdogan said in press statements alongside the Ukrainian president: “We are ready to host a peace summit in which Russia will participate.” Erdogan reiterated that he “supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of his strategic ally, Ukraine.” “While we remain in solidarity with Ukraine, we continue our efforts to end the war and achieve a just, negotiated peace,” Erdogan said.
When talking about a new mechanism to ensure the safety of commercial shipping in the Black Sea, Erdogan stressed that he “intends to reach an agreement between the two sides” and is ready to help. “We have the same position on food security, prisoner exchanges and shipping guarantees: we must guarantee them,” he said. “We do not lose hope”
Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Erdogan has repeatedly presented himself as a mediator.
“Creator. Award-winning problem solver. Music evangelist. Incurable introvert.”
