Pollen increase makes people sneeze again: What remedies don’t work for hay fever? | Science and the planet

Bad news for people with hay fever. Due to the fairly mild and sunny weather, there have already been several pollen peaks over the past few days. But what can you do better to avoid sneezing and watery eyes? And what are the common remedies that are actually complete nonsense? Our science journalist Martin Peters found it out for you.

In recent days, hazel and alder have released large amounts of pollen into the air. So the weather conditions were perfect. The weather was mild and sunny with little rain. This may have already affected people, especially those who are allergic to this type of pollen.

Fortunately for hay fever sufferers, the amounts are down somewhat at the moment, due in part to the gray weather associated with the downpour. But after the weekend, it seems to be dry and sunny again, so a new surge cannot be ruled out. As March approaches, so does birch pollen. But what does the rest of the hay fever season look like?
