According to the insider, Microsoft and Activision do not intend to walk away from the deal if the deadline is not met and they want to continue talking. The merger agreement set July 18 as the date when the two companies could leave the negotiating table. If that happens, Microsoft will have to pay Activision Blizzard $3 billion as some kind of punishment for the failed acquisition.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which monitors US competition, failed to block the deal in court. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has announced that it will start new talks to address the UK government’s concerns.
