The Boy and the Heron is the top-grossing film in North America show

Boy and Heron, the latest film from Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki, had a great run in theaters in North America this weekend. According to industry tracker Exhibitor Relations, the film grossed around $12.8 million (nearly €12 million).

The film follows the life of 11-year-old Mahito, who leaves Tokyo after his mother is set on fire to live with his father in the countryside. There he meets a gray heron who becomes his guide in an epic about the mysteries of life. Miyazaki previously created classics such as Spirit away And Screaming is a moving castle.

The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes It retained the top 3 spot for the fourth weekend in a row. The film collected 9.4 million euros between Friday and Sunday.

Another Japanese movie, Godzilla minus oneThe Takashi Yamazaki-directed film finished in third place with $8.3 million for the second weekend in a row.
