Bad Christmas weather: You might want to stay home for less. As a cyclist, riding on rollers can be very attractive, but Remco Evenepoel didn’t pay much attention to it. The world champion left on Sunday morning in very bad weather for a three-hour training session and more than 100 kilometres. “I would see this as a good preparation for the Giro weather,” Evenpoel, 22, writes on Strava.

Evenbühl left his home in Schepdal and passed through Nynof and Gerardsbergen, among others. He ignored the famous wall – perhaps wisely given the weather conditions. In the end, the world champion finished at 102 kilometres. Indeed, not a bad preparation for the Tour of Italy, where Evenepoel will be active from 6 to 28 May: in the spring the peloton there, especially in the mountains, sometimes dares to become a victim of erratic weather.

In an Instagram live session not too long ago, Evenpoel did indeed point out that he trains less than before on rollers and also runs around outside in rainy weather. During the same session, he also said that he would do a long rehearsal both on Christmas and New Year’s so that he could have a good dinner afterwards.

Van Aert trains for Gavere during the day

Evenepoel’s example was certainly not followed by the other big Belgian name Wout van Aert. Practice on the pulleys on Christmas Day. Van Aert will of course ride abroad on Boxing Day: then he will be the Belgian champion at the start of Javier’s World Cup cross. It promises to become a real classic due to the bad weather of the last few days. Rain is expected on Monday.
