The United States hopes that the dynamics of the battlefield will not change, but North Korea plans to give Wagner more. The Americans consider the arms support a violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
The paramilitary organization of Yevgeny Prigozhin, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, is helping the Russian military in Ukraine. According to US estimates, 50,000 Wagner troops are currently fighting in Ukraine, including 10,000 mercenaries and 40,000 convicts from Russian prisons. About a thousand Wagner fighters are said to have died in recent weeks.
Prigozhin denies receiving weapons from the North Koreans and dismisses the allegations as “rumors and speculation”. “Everybody knows that North Korea has long stopped supplying Russia with weapons,” the Wagner boss said in a statement.
